Let’s get straight to the point: There are no quick fixes, magic pills, or 6-week programs that will transform your health and fitness. If there were, gyms would not exist and the population wouldn’t be riddled with disease and obesity.
We know this with education and careers. It takes a year to pass a grade, many years to earn a qualification, and decades to establish your career. The journey is certainly different for everyone, but everyone on that journey (willingly or not) accepts that it’s going to take time.
Similarly, fitness takes time.
Whether you want to lose weight, tone up, build muscle, get stronger, be able to run faster, or become more flexible, it’s going to take time. And the hard pill to swallow is that we don’t know how long it’s going to take to get there.
What we do know, however, is that when you focus on the journey you have more fun along the way. And the more fun you have, the better the results. We also know that when you attempt to rush the process you are more likely to get injured.
Seek out a coach for guidance on setting smart goals. Allow the coach to keep you accountable while acknowledging that progress is not linear. Be patient. Enjoy the journey. Relax. Have fun. Workout!
